VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS 

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (2-7, 0-5 NJAC) dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) overtime game, 92-91, to Stockton (6-3, 4-1 NJAC) Dec. 9 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Pioneers held a slim 58-54 lead with 7:36 remaining in the second half before Stockton went on a 16-5 run to go ahead by seven (70-63). The Ospreys went 6-for-7 (.857) from the field and 4-for-5 (.800) from deep during the stretch that lasted 4:19.
• William Paterson continuously worked to chip into the deficit and pulled within three (74-71) with 1:01 left following a three-point play by junior Andre Wells (Matawan, N.J./Matawan).
• It remained a three-point game in favor of Stockton until senior Tyreek Montgomery (Neptune, N.J./Admiral Farragut) banked in a shot from well beyond the arc with five seconds on the clock to even the score and force overtime.
• Neither side could gain any separation in overtime, but junior David Martinez (Maywood, N.J./Hackensack) buried a shot from deep with 2:55 on the clock to put the Pioneers ahead, 86-84.
• Stockton evened the score at the 1:26 mark and later took the lead (90-89) with 52 seconds left after a score in from inside the paint.
• The Pioneers had possession of the ball in the closing seconds but a three by Montgomery rolled in-and-out before senior Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) tipped it in to trim the deficit to one (92-91) with three seconds remaining. However, the Ospreys were able to ice the game and secure the conference road win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Montgomery led the Pioneers in the scoring column with 23 points.
• The senior added seven boards, three blocks, two assists and a pair of steals to his stat line.
• Wells scored a career-high 19 points on 6-of-9 (.667) with seven rebounds and five assists.
• Martinez went 5-for-8 (.625) from long range for a 16-point outing.
• Summers Jr. logged 12 points and eight rebounds.
• Junior Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) chipped in with nine points.

 
UP NEXT:

• William Paterson resumes action Wednesday, Dec. 13, when the Pioneers host Rutgers-Newark for an NJAC game scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
