Women's Basketball Drops Road NJAC Tilt to New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (2-4, 1-1 NJAC) fell, 75-56, to New Jersey City (3-2, 2-0 NJAC) in a road New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Nov. 29.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers held a slim 32-31 advantage heading into the halftime break. However, the Gothic Knights got into a groove offensively midway through the third quarter and outscored William Paterson, 18-7, in the remaining 5:11 of the frame to grab a 13-point lead (57-44).
  • With 8:27 left to play in the game, New Jersey City went on a 14-3 run and extended its lead to 22 (71-49) before going on to capture the 75-56 home win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Patricia Walsh (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) recorded her first collegiate double-double after scoring a career-high 17 points and reeling in a career-best 14 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) logged a season-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists.
  • Senior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) tallied 10 points with five rebounds.
  • Freshman Mattison Chiera (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) chipped in with seven points, five boards and a game-high three steals.

  • William Paterson returns to the Sports and Recreation Center Saturday, Dec. 2, for a 1:00 p.m. NJAC game against Rowan.
