Box Score NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (8-5, 2-4 NJAC) shot over 50 percent from the field and from deep en route to grabbing an 82-62 road victory over Rutgers-Newark (3-9, 1-4 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) tilt on Jan. 4.   

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Rutgers-Newark led by one (47-46) with 17:23 remaining in the game before junior Tyreek Montgomery (Neptune, N.J./Admiral Farragut) nailed his second consecutive 3-pointer to put the Pioneers ahead and spark an 18-7 run. Over the course of the run that lasted just over seven minutes, William Paterson went 7-of-12 (.583) from the floor with six different Pioneers recording a point.
• William Paterson maintained its double-digit advantage the rest of the way before capturing the 20-point road conference victory.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Montgomery posted his second consecutive 20-point performance, finishing with 20 points on 7-of-10 (.700) shooting with five made 3-pointers on eight attempts.
• He added six rebounds and a pair of assists opposite the Scarlet Raiders.
• Sophomore Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) recorded 15 points to pair with a team-high four assists.
• Junior Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) flirted with a double-double after scoring 14 points and reeling in a team-best nine boards.
• Senior Adryan Lopez (Garfield, N.J./Lyndhurst) went for 12 points and tallied five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
• Senior Michael Gilmore (Teaneck, N.J./Pine Forge Academy) and junior Caesar Silvestro (Ridgewood, N.J,/Pascack Hills) finished with nine and seven points, respectively.
• The Pioneers extended their win streak to four games.
• William Paterson shot over 50 percent from the field (29-54, .537) and from long range (12-24, .500).
