Women's Basketball Drops Overtime NJAC Tilt to Rowan

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

WAYNE, N.J. – Three Pioneers combined to score 59 points, but the William Paterson women's basketball team (11-7, 6-5 NJAC) fell 71-64 in overtime to Rowan (11-7, 7-4 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Jan. 21 at the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite entering the third quarter down double figures (27-17), the Pioneers outscored the Profs, 27-11, to gain a six-point advantage (44-38). William Paterson shot 10-of-17 (.588) from the field and 4-of-6 (.666) from deep in the third frame with freshman Renee Wells (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South) leading the way with 11 points.
  • The Pioneers extended their lead to double digits (50-40) with 7:54 remaining in the fourth quarter before Rowan took a two-point lead (57-55) with 1:40 left to play following a 15-3 run. However, a layup by junior Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) evened the score and sent the game into overtime.
  • In the overtime period, Rowan edged out William Paterson and secured the 71-64 conference road win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
