Men’s Soccer Falls Short During NJAC Opener at Rutgers-Camden, 4-3

Moreira, Olaloko and Rojas Find Back of Net for Pioneers

CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (3-4-1, 0-1 NJAC) couldn't hold off host Rutgers-Camden (4-5-1, 1-0 NJAC) Sept. 24, suffering a 4-3 loss during the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) season opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior midfielder David Moreira's (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) shot from the left side gave him his second goal of the season and the Pioneers a 1-0 edge 11:06 into the contest.
  • The Scarlet Raptors leveled the score five minutes later.
  • WP regained the lead in the 26th minute when junior forward Opeoluwa Olaloko (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) knocked in a Moreira corner kick, finding the back of the net for the first time this fall.
  • Rutgers-Camden converted a penalty kick 1:11 before halftime, knotting the match at 2-2.
  • The Scarlet Raptors seized control with goals during the 48th and 53rd minutes, building a 4-2 advantage.
  • Junior midfielder Alfredo Rojas (Clifton, N.J./Passaic County Tech) connected on a Delvin Nketia (New Brunswick, N.J./Montclair) pass in the box, cutting the lead to one at 4-3 in the 69th minute.

  • Senior Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) made one save for the Pioneers.
