Baseball Cruises to 19-10 Victory at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. – William Paterson (25-12, 11-5 NJAC) scored the first seven runs of the game and cruised to a 19-10 baseball victory at Ramapo (14-21-1, 5-11 NJAC) April 29.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers scored six times during the top of the second inning. Senior left fielder Dan Carter (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) was issued a leadoff base on balls, senior designated hitter Dylan Habeeb (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) reached on an error and graduate student first baseman Carson Weis (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored one run, sophomore second baseman Jake Lutz (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) singled in two, senior third baseman Colin Lombardo (Edison, N.J./Edison) sent an RBI-triple to right center and senior right fielder Vinnie Martin (Lodi, N.J./Bergen Catholic) hit a run-scoring base hit up the middle. Three more walks, the last to Habeeb, forced across another run and made it a 6-0 score.
  • A Tom Radigan (Verona, N.J./Verona) double and Lombardo single made it a 7-0 third-inning margin.
  • The Roadrunners used two base hits and a double to make it a 7-2 game after three frames.
  • Carter doubled in senior catcher Steve Yelin (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional), who was hit by a leadoff pitch, and a balk and Habeeb sacrifice fly pushed WP's advantage to 9-2 during the top half of the fourth.
  • Radigan opened the fifth with a base hit, Lombardo walked and Yelin sent an RBI-double down the left-field line. Carter followed with an infield single, and an error allowed two runs to cross home and push the lead to 12-2.
  • A Martin walk and hit by pitches for Yelin and Carter loaded the bases in the sixth. Habeeb's free pass forced in one run, and sophomore first baseman Chris Alberti (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) followed with a grand slam to left. Doubles by Lutz and Radigan made it an 18-2 margin.
  • Habeeb tripled in Yelin for a 19-2 score during the top of the seventh inning.
  • Ramapo scored three times in the eighth and five times in the ninth.
