Baseball Suffers 1-0 Walk-Off Loss at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – A well-played game by both teams ended in the bottom of the ninth as the William Paterson baseball team (21-11, 7-5 NJAC) suffered a 1-0 loss at Montclair State (26-7, 11-1 NJAC) April 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
A one-out hit by pitch and double into left field produced the game's only run.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore second baseman Jake Lutz (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) was 2-for-4, accounting for half of the Pioneers' hits.
  • Senior Riley Weis (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) spun 5.2 innings of three-hit ball, walking four and striking out one.
  • Freshman Neel Telidevara (Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) allowed one run on one hit during his 2.2 innings of relief (1-1).
  • WP had a runner on third base with two outs during both the third and sixth innings, but couldn't advance him the final 90 feet. On the flip side, MSU had at least one runner in scoring position in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth, but great defensive plays by the Pioneers kept it a scoreless contest.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson hosts Rutgers-Camden for a doubleheader Saturday, April 23, at 11:30 a.m.
