Softball Drops Two at Rowan in Conference Opener

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (9-8 NJAC 0-2) opened its conference play with a doubleheader against #19 Rowan (17-5, 2-0 NJAC) April 2, dropping both contests, 6-0 and 10-1.


GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Profs ended a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, driving in six runs on four hits.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Freshman pitcher Jaelynn Miller (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills) (3-2) pitched 5.0 shutout innings before allowing three earned runs in sixth.
  • Senior shortstop Anna Nunziato (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) went 2-3 in the contest.
  • Graduate student left fielder Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) and freshman Kylie Bythrow (Deptford, N.J./Deptford) each recorded a hit.
 
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a solo home run.
  • WP tied the game in the top of the third inning. Senior center fielder Lauren Naveo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) got on base with a single through the left side. Nunziato doubled on the next at-bat and a fielding error by the short stop on the throw allowed Naveo to bring in a run.
  • The Profs retook the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring nine runs on eight hits for a 10-1 edge.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Naveo went 2-for-2 and scored the lone run for William Paterson.
  • Nunziato went 1-for-3 with a double.
  • Sophomore second baseman Haley Weinberger (Williamstown, N.J./Hammonton), Junior third baseman Kilee Oertel (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), and Bythrow each secured a hit.
