Softball Swept at Home Against Ramapo

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (9-10 NJAC 0-4) was swept at home by Ramapo (11-4, 3-1 NJAC) April 5, falling in both contests, 4-3 and 9-0.


GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Roadrunners started off the contest in the top of the first inning with four runs on five hits to take a 4-0 advantage.
  • WP scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Graduate student left fielder Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) singled through the middle and stole second to put her in scoring position for senior designated player Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) to bring McDaniel home on an RBI-double to left center to make the score 4-1 Ramapo.
  • The Pioneers found another run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Roadrunners lead to 4-2. Freshman pinch hitter Lindsey Acker (Wenoah, N.J./Deptford) reached first on an error. Sophomore second baseman Haley Weinberger (Williamstown, N.J./Hammonton) re-entered the game to run and advanced to second on a McDaniel ground out. Monahan sent a ball through the right side, plating Weinberger.
  • William Paterson attempted to complete the comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sophomore first baseman Gianna Mulato (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) started the frame with a walk and was replaced by junior pinch runner Lindsey Wall (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock). Freshman pitcher Jaelynn Miller (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills) singled to right field on the next at-bat, followed by a fielder's choice reach by senior center fielder Lauren Naveo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) which advanced Miller to second, but Wall was thrown out at third. An RBI-double from Nunziato sent Miller home, but Naveo could not bring in the tying run as she was thrown out at the plate. Weinberger singled to the through the left side to advance Nunziato to third and advanced to second on a wild pitch. McDaniel grounded out to end the contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Miller (3-3) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, and striking out three batters.
  • Monahan went 2-for-3 in the contest with two RBI and a double.
  • Nunziato finished 2-for-3 with an RBI-double.
 
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ramapo scored two runs in the top of the first inning to give the Roadrunners the early lead
  • A single up the middle drove in another run for Ramapo for a 3-0 edge.
  • The Roadrunners found three more runs to make the score 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Ramapo closed out the game with three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning for a 9-0 victory
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Sophomore pitcher Lexi Corio (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) pitched 5.2 relief innings, allowing two earned runs.
  • Nunziato collected a hit in the contest.

  • William Paterson travels to take on Drew Thursday, April 7, for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
