Men's Basketball To Face #4 Seed Penn State Altoona in ECAC Tournament Semifinals

Pioneers, Lions Square off in ECAC Semifinals

DANBURY, CONN. -- Ninth-seeded William Paterson (14-12, 9-9 NJAC) is slated to square off with fourth-seeded Penn State Altoona (19-7, 13-3 AMCC) in the ECAC Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals Saturday, March 5, at 3:00 p.m. 
 
HOW TO CATCH THE ACTION WHERE TICKETS
  • Entry into the game is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The WP/PSU-Altoona winner will advance to the championship game Sunday, March 6, at 1:00 p.m. Rutgers-Newark will host also the final on March 6.
 
WP IN THE ECAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are making their fourth ECAC Tournament appearance (1987, 1991, 2018, 2022), advancing to the 1987 final. This is the first semifinals appearance for WP since 1987.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson is 14-12 overall and 9-9 in conference play this season, most recently taking down first-seeded Alvernia (18-8, 11-5 MAC) 88-85 Mar. 4, in the ECAC Tournament quarterfinals.
  • A member of the All-NJAC First Team, graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 17.5 points, 3.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game, adding 4.7 rebounds per contest.
  • Junior forward Michael Gilmore (Teaneck, N.J./Pine Forge Academy) is a key Pioneer contributor off the bench, averaging 8.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
  • Junior forward Yvens Monfleury (Newark, N.J./American History) leads WP on the boards with 6.5 rebounds per game, chipping in 9.5 points per contest.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • Penn State Altoona registered a 19-7 overall record and 13-3 mark in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play during the regular season, most recently downing fifth-seeded United States Merchant Marine Academy (15-10, 12-4 Skyline) 98-80 March 4, in the ECAC Tournament quarterfinals.
  • The Lions are lead by junior guard Andruw Harman, the AMCC Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 13.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
  • Junior guard Robbie Hicks adds 12.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest.
  • The Lions head coach, David McGreal, was recently named the AMCC Coach of the Year.
