Men’s Basketball Opens ECAC Tournament Play Wednesday at Gwynedd Mercy

Pioneers, Griffins to Meet at 7:00 p.m.

DANBURY, CONN. -- Ninth-seeded William Paterson (12-12, 9-9 NJAC) will play at eighth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy (15-10, 7-5 Atlantic East) in the ECAC Men's Basketball Tournament first round Wednesday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The WP/GMU winner will advance to the quarterfinals Friday, March 4, against Alvernia at 12:00 p.m. Rutgers-Newark will host the quarterfinals, semifinals and final March 4-6.
 
WP IN THE ECAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are making their fourth ECAC Tournament appearance (1987, 1991, 2018, 2022), advancing to the 1987 final.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson is 12-12 overall and 9-9 in conference play this season, most recently dropping a 71-66 decision at Montclair State (14-9, 10-8 NJAC) Feb. 22 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament quarterfinals.
  • A member of the All-NJAC First Team, graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 18.0 points, 3.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game, adding 4.8 rebounds per contest.
  • Graduate student guard Brian Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) is posting 11.6 points and 2.1 assists per outing.
  • Junior forward Yvens Monfleury (Newark, N.J./American History) paces WP on the boards with 5.7 rebounds per game, chipping in 7.7 points per contest.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
  • Gwynedd Mercy registered a 15-10 overall record and 7-5 mark in Atlantic East Conference play during the regular season, most recently dropping a 66-63 decision Feb. 21 to Centenary (11-12, 4-8 AE) in the Atlantic East Tournament first round.
  • Sophomore guard Aziz Parker leads the Griffins with 14.6 points per game, adding 3.6 rebounds per contest.
  • Senior guard Ty Jones is posting 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing.
  • Graduate student forward Donaven Spencer is contributing 9.5 points and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.
