Women’s Basketball Hosts Ramapo Feb. 22 for NJAC Tournament Quarterfinal Match-Up

Pioneers, Roadrunners to Meet at 7:00 p.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – The fourth-seeded William Paterson women's basketball team (12-10, 11-7 NJAC) will host fifth-seeded Ramapo (10-11, 9-9 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament quarterfinal round Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
 
WP students with ID will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Division of Student Development. All WP students with ID will have the chance to enter a raffle for a WP winter hat, and the first 50 WP students with ID will receive a free hot dog, courtesy of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The WP/Ramapo winner will advance to the semifinals Thursday, Feb. 24, against the winner of the No. 1 Kean/No. 8 The College of New Jersey quarterfinal, and the game will be hosted by the higher seed. Following the semifinals, the highest remaining seed will host the championship game Saturday, Feb. 26, at a time to be determined. The NJAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
 
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are seeking their fourth conference title (1993, 2011, 2012).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson is 12-10 overall and 11-7 in conference play this season, most recently dropping a 74-59 decision at Kean (17-6, 16-2 NJAC) Feb. 16.
  • Junior forward/guard Justina Cabezas (Carlstadt, N.J./Becton Regional) leads the Pioneers with 14.8 points per game, adding 7.4 rebounds per contest.
  • Senior forward/guard Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) is posting 11.5 points and a team-best 7.6 rebounds per outing.
  • Junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) is contributing 9.4 points and 2.0 assists per contest.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
  • Ramapo registered a 10-11 overall record and 9-9 mark in conference play during the regular season, most recently earning a 71-48 win Feb. 16 against Rutgers-Camden (2-17, 1-17 NJAC).
  • Freshman guard Jada Thompson leads the Roadrunners with 14.6 points and 3.6 assists per game, adding 9.0 rebounds per contest.
  • Sophomore guard Bridget Cahill is posting 11.4 points per outing.
  • Senior center Alie Wickersheim is contributing 9.9 points and a team-high 9.2 rebounds per game.
 
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • William Paterson won a pair of close games against Ramapo this season, 64-62 Nov. 23 in Mahwah and 70-67 Jan. 19 in Wayne.
