PITMAN, N.J. -- Fifth-seeded William Paterson (12-11, 9-9 NJAC) will play at fourth-seeded Montclair State (13-9, 10-8 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 5:00 p.m. for the right to advance to the semifinal round.
WP students with ID will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Division of Student Development.
HOW TO CATCH THE ACTION
WHERE
WHAT'S AT STAKE
- The WP/MSU winner will advance to the semifinals Thursday, Feb. 24, against the winner of the No. 1 Stockton/No. 8 The College of New Jersey quarterfinal, and the game will be hosted by the higher seed. Following the semifinals, the highest remaining seed will host the championship game Saturday, Feb. 26, at a time to be determined. The NJAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
- The Pioneers are seeking their 12th conference title (1972, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1985, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2012).
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
- William Paterson is 12-11 overall and 9-9 in conference play this season, most recently earning an 84-76 victory at Kean (14-9, 9-9 NJAC) Feb. 16.
- Graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 18.4 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game, adding 4.8 rebounds per contest.
- Graduate student guard Brian Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) is posting 11.8 points and 2.2 assists per outing.
- Junior forward Yvens Monfleury (Newark, N.J./American History) paces WP on the boards with 5.7 rebounds per game, chipping in 7.6 points per contest.
SCOUTING THE RED HAWKS
- Montclair State registered a 13-9 overall record and 10-8 mark in conference play during the regular season, most recently dropping a 110-102 overtime decision Feb. 16 at Rowan (21-4, 14-4 NJAC).
- Senior forward Steven Breeman leads the Red Hawks with 15.6 points per game, adding 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest.
- Graduate student guard/forward Irving Callender IV is posting 15.1 points and a team-best 8.6 rebounds per outing.
- Freshman guard Mike Jackson is contributing 10.7 points per game.
EARLIER THIS SEASON
- William Paterson and Montclair State traded road wins during the regular season. The Pioneers were 84-74 winners Dec. 8 in Montclair, and the Red Hawks were 83-60 victors Feb. 2 in Wayne.
