Women's Swimming and Diving Earns Win Against Purchase, 81-62

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (4-3) defeated Purchase (0-5), 81-62, Nov. 5.

TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Junior Nicole Kahwaty (Lakke Hopatcong, N.J./Morris County Tech) touched the wall first in the 1,000 free (14:26.12) and 500 free (6:57.05).
  • Junior Samantha Pricken (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) finished first in the 200 free (2:16.01) and 100 back (1:06.90).
  • Junior Hailey Krajewski (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) secured two victories in the 50 free (28.60) and 100 breast (1:20.01).
  • Freshman Sarah Gomez (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) won the 200 IM (2:28.86) and 100 free (1:00.12).
  • The Pioneers secured a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, with efforts by Pricken, Gomez, senior Jillian Starace (Toms River/Toms River East) and Krajewski, finishing with a time of 2:06.59.
  • WP earned first in the 200 free relay with a time of 2:11.55, with efforts by senior Stephany Bolanos (Perth Amboy, N.J./Academy for Allied Health & Biomedical Sciences), junior Melody Espin (Colonia, N.J./Colonia), senior Emily Murphy (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) and Starace.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Murphy posted a personal record in the 50 free (31.52) and 100 fly (1:25.03).
  • Gomez beat her personal best in the 200 IM (2:28.86).

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson resumes NJAC competition Tuesday, Nov. 15, against Rowan at 4:00 p.m. at Wightman Pool.
