11/18/2022 10:14:00 PM

Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – It was a tale of two halves in the first round of the Manhattanville Tournament as the William Paterson men's basketball team (2-1) saw its double-digit halftime advantage disappear after a strong second-half performance lifted Manhattanville (4-1) to a 75-61 victory on Nov. 18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers had an efficient first half, shooting the ball at a 48-percent clip (13-of-27) from the floor and 44-percent mark (7-of-16) from long range to build an 11-point lead (36-25) heading into the halftime break.
  • However, the Valiants completely flipped the script in the final 20 minutes as they scored 50 of their 75 points on 19-of-31 (.613) shooting from the field. From the 17:10 mark of the second stanza to the final horn, Manhattanville outscored William Paterson, 48-19.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Tyreek Montgomery (Neptune, N.J./Admiral Farragut) paced the Pioneers' offense with 14 points for his third consecutive double-digit scoring performance.
  • Sophomore Neftali Valentin (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) logged his second game of the season with double figures in the scoring column after tallying 13 points.
  • Senior Adryan Lopez (Garfield, N.J./Lyndhurst) flirted with a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.

UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers will remain in Purchase, N.Y., to take on Gwynedd Mercy at 4:00 p.m. in the consolation round of the Manhattanville Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19.
