Football Drops Decision to Visiting Salisbury, 23-0

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson football team (4-2, 1-1 NJAC) suffered a 23-0 home setback against Salisbury (5-1, 2-0 NJAC) Oct. 8.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sea Gulls got on the scoreboard via a three-yard rushing touchdown with 1:50 remaining in the first quarter but missed the PAT, leaving it a 6-0 score.
  • Salisbury turned a blocked punt into an 11-yard rushing TD on the next snap, extending its lead to 13-0 with 10 seconds on the clock in the first.
  • The Sea Gulls punched in a two-yard touchdown for a 20-0 margin at the 5:09 mark of the third quarter.
  • A 22-yard field goal finished the scoring with 11:09 to play in the fourth.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior quarterback Mele' Stallings (Newark, Del./Newark) finished 15-for-34 for 106 yards and an interception.
  • Freshman running back Nazir Dale (Camden, N.J./Brimm Medical Arts) carried 15 times for 55 yards, and junior Taz Burton (Millville, N.J./Bridgeton) caught six passes for 34 yards.
  • Freshman defensive back James Nevels (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) paced all players with a season-best 12 tackles (11 solo).
  • Junior linebacker Samod Wingo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) posted nine stops (five solo, 2.0 TFL), and senior linebacker Nazier Wright (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) made eight tackles (four solo, 1.5 TFL).
