Volleyball Splits Saturday Tri-Match at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (12-17) fell 3-0 to New Paltz (20-3) on Oct. 29 before bouncing back to top Vassar (4-20), 3-2.

MATCH ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • New Paltz bested the Pioneers in straight sets, securing set wins of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-19.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rookie Inaya Jones (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) led the attack with eight kills.
  • Freshman Ava Padwelka (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) dished out a team-high 13 assists.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) logged a match-high 15 digs.
MATCH TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers took the opening set opposite Vassar, 25-20, but dropped the ensuing two frames, 25-16 and 26-24.
  • William Paterson forced a fifth set following a 26-24 victory in the fourth.
  • The Pioneers went on to claim the match victory after outscoring Vassar, 15-13, in the final set of the afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Jones matched her career-high kill total with 12 to pair with four blocks.
  • Freshman setter Alexa Jarvis (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) posted her third collegiate double-double after tallying 24 assists and 11 digs.
  • Rookie Abigail Hayth (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) finished with 10 kills and 15 digs for her fourth career double-double.
  • Molina recorded a team-best 30 digs.
  • Freshman Kiyarah Hicks (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) finished with 11 digs.
