Field Hockey Scores 2-1 Senior Day Victory Against Concordia

Pioneers Use Goals from Dieckman, Burgess for Win

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (3-7) celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 victory against Concordia, Wisc. (6-7) Oct. 22.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A spin and shot in front of goal handed the Falcons a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute.
  • After a series of passes off a penalty corner, junior forward Adrian Dieckman (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) connected at the left post on a ball from the right side by sophomore midfielder Sara Thomas (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), leveling the score at 1-1 at the 22:06 mark.
  • Graduate student back/midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) sent a ball across the circle to senior forward Dana Burgess (Delran, N.J./Holy Cross), who finished at the left post for her first career goal and a 2-1 score less than two minutes before halftime.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Kourtney Hartzel (York, Pa./West York Area) notched two saves for the Pioneers.
  • Dieckman's goal was her fifth of the season, and Thomas collected her first assist.
  • Hoopes' assist moved her into sole possession of fourth place on the WP career list (19).
  • Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their five seniors and graduate students – Jillian Bigos (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South), Burgess, Hoopes, Gina Piscitelli (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) and Catie Wilson (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood).
