Volleyball Falls in Pair of Five-Set Matches

DANBURY, Conn. – The William Paterson volleyball team (9-14) dropped a pair of five-set matches to UMass Dartmouth (16-6) and Western Connecticut State (11-9) on Oct. 15.

MATCH 1:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers won the opening set, 25-21, but UMass Dartmouth went on to claim the following two frames, 25-10 and 25-23.
  • William Paterson managed to force a fifth set after winning the fourth, 26-24. However, the Pioneers were ultimately topped, 15-7, in the final frame.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington), junior Eliana Lamb (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) and freshmen Erica Bickart (Tucson, Ariz./Marana) and Inaya Jones (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) each finished with eight kills.
  • Bickart logged a team-best .313 attack percentage and added five total blocks.
  • Freshman Ava Padwelka (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) posted 35 assists.
  • It was her second career match with over 30 assists.
  • Junior Paola Molina (Hatillo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Felipe) recorded a team-high 18 digs.
MATCH 2:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Western Connecticut State opened the match by taking the first set, 25-15.
  • The Pioneers bounced back to take sets two and three, 25-21 and 27-25.
  • The Wolves countered by winning the fourth set, 25-23, before going on to claim the fifth set, 15-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Bickart notched a team-best 10 kills to pair with four total blocks.
  • Padwelka dished out 31 assists.
  • It was her third career match with over 30 assists.
  • Molina logged a team-high 23 digs.

  • William Paterson returns to the Sports and Recreation Center in Wayne, N.J., on Tuesday, Oct. 18, for a 7 p.m. NJAC match against Stockton.
