Women's Basketball Defeated at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J.- The William Paterson women's basketball team (9-8, 8-5 NJAC) lost a close 84-79 road contest at Rowan (12-7, 9-3 NJAC) on Jan. 31.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan outscored WP 30-16 in the first quarter.
  • A good jumper in the paint from junior guard Brianna Smith (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) cut the Pioneers' deficit to eight, at 35-27 with 3:40 left in the first half.
  • The Pioneer offense came out hot to begin the third, as they would eventually tie the game at 50-50, with 3:27 left in the quarter.
  • The Profs led by 10 with 6:11 remaining.
  • WP stormed back, going on a 14-4 run, to only trail by two, at 81-79 with 40 seconds left.
  • Rowan went 4-for-4 (100%) on the game clinching free throws.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Smith finished with a new season and career high 29 points, shooting 10-for-11 (.909) from the free throw line.
  • Junior forward Qiana Vigo (Ewing, N.J./The Hill School) secured her second straight double-double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Junior guard Precious Allah (Neptune, N.J./Monmouth Regional) also had a career-high 18 points.
