Persaud Socres Overtime Goal to Give Women’s Soccer 1-0 Season-Opening Win Against Wilkes

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior midfielder Samantha Persaud (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) sunk the game-winning goal seconds into the overtime period to give the William Paterson Women's soccer team (1-0) the 1-0 win against Wilkes in its season opener on Sept 8.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a scoreless regulation, it did not take the Pioneers long to put the game winning goal in the back of the net as Persaud floated the ball over the goalkeepers head at the 90:26 mark off an assist from junior midfielder Elisa Zuta (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) to seal the game for WP.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student goalkeeper Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) starts the season with two saves and the shutout.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will be on the road Saturday, Sep. 11, at 12:00 p.m. to take on FDU-Florham.
