Field Hockey Earns Third Shutout of the Season With 6-0 Win at Neumann

ASTON, PA – Five different Pioneers found the back of the cage as The William Paterson field hockey team (5-2) secured its third shutout of the season, 6-0, at Neumann (2-6) on Sept. 25.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP started the high-scoring day at the 9:53 mark as senior back Alicia Mitchell (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) put in the first goal for the Pioneers.
  • William Paterson created two goals in the last five minutes of the half. The first came from senior forward Abigail Viola (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.), who collected a goal off her own rebound, and the second was from graduate student Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional), who scored off an assist from senior forward Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.), giving the Pioneers the 3-0 halftime lead.
  • Freas-Papa notched her second goal of the game at the 37:10 mark to extend the Pioneers' lead to 4-0.
  • WP's final two goals came in the last four minutes of the contest. The first was off the stick from sophomore forward Adrain Dieckman as she was assisted by Hoopes, and the second was scored from sophomore midfielder Louise Nastasi (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional), who capitalized off a blocked shot.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalie Kourtney Hartzel (York, Pa./West York Area) recorded her first shutout of the season.
  • The goals by Dieckman and Nastasi were both the first of their careers.
