Viola Scores Twice as Field Hockey Blanks Cedar Crest, 4-0

Pioneers Shut Out the Falcons at Home

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior forward Abigail Viola (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) scored a pair of goals in the first and fourth quarter as the William Paterson field hockey team (4-2) blanked Cedar Crest (2-3) to secure the 4-0 win at Wightman Stadium on Sept 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers first goal came within the first two-minutes of the game as graduate midfielder Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional) assisted senior midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) on the left wing for the high shot goal.
  • WP struck quickly again as Viola dribbled the ball up the left seam and struck the back of the cage at the 5:21 mark to extend the lead.
  • Viola would find her second goal of the game at the 50:16 mark, dribbling the ball from left to center off a nice pass from sophomore Carly Santucci (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) for the Pioneers third goal of the contest.
  • Senior Hope Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) would cap off the impressive night for WP, scoring the final goal off a penalty corner pass by Hoopes.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kourtney Hartzel (York, Pa./West York Area) and sophomore goalkeeper Emily Hoagland (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) each entered the game for the Pioneers, recording one save a piece.
