Rally Falls Just Short for Women’s Soccer, Drop Conference Opener at Kean

Pioneers Drop League Opener to Kean

UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer (2-2, 0-1 NJAC) team rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the second half to even the game, but a goal in the last ten minutes by Kean (3-2-1, 1-0 NJAC) sunk the Pioneers as they suffered a 3-2 defeat in their conference opener on Sep. 18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cougars first goal came with just eight seconds to go in the first half as they found the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead heading into the second half.
  • Kean would then strike at the 55:17 mark to extend their lead.
  • William Paterson answered Kean's second goal quickly as freshman forward Lauren Hutchison (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) found freshman midfielder Madelynn Spink (Bellmawr, N.J./Audubon) at the 57:19 mark to cut the Cougars lead to one.
  • Junior back Kayla Miller (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) would sink the equalizer for WP at the 64:13 mark.
  • The Pioneers rally would not be complete however, as Kean kicked the game-winning goal at the 82:15 mark to seal the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate goalkeeper Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) logged two saves for WP.
  • Hutchinson and Spink both recorded their first collegiate career points in this contest.

UP NEXT:
  • WP finishes their four-game road stand as they travel to New York University, Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
