Field Hockey to Play for NJAC Title Saturday at Wightman Stadium

Third-Seeded Pioneers Host Fourth-Seeded Roadrunners at 8:00 p.m.

NJAC Tournament Championship Bracket 

PITMAN, N.J. – The third-seeded William Paterson field hockey team (2-2, 1-2 NJAC) will play for the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament title Saturday, April 10, at home against fourth-seeded Ramapo (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) at 8:00 p.m.

WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT:
  • WP is making its sixth appearance in the NJAC Tournament (1973, 1975, 1977, 2012, 2015, Spring 2021), and the Pioneers are seeking their fourth conference title (1973, 1975, 1977).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS:
  • William Paterson advanced to the championship game with a 1-0 double-overtime semifinal win April 8 at second-seeded Stockton. Junior back Alicia Mitchell (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) knocked home a rebound with 45 seconds remaining during the second overtime period.
  • Juniors Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) and Mitchell lead the Pioneers with two goals apiece, followed by Catie Wilson (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) and Kelsie Murphy (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) with one goal each.
  • Junior Abigail Viola (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) has notched two assists on the season, while classmate Hope Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) has one.
  • In goal, Emily Hoagland (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) owns a 1.60 goal-against average, .741 save percentage and two shutouts during her first collegiate season.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS:
  • Due to COVID protocols, Ramapo has played just one game this season, a 1-0 overtime loss at WP March 16.
  • Goalie Samantha Stolker has one save on the year.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Junior midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) found the back of the cage in the 64th minute, lifting William Paterson to a 1-0 overtime season-opening victory against visiting Ramapo March 16.
