Softball Drops Pair to Rowan

Profs Sweep Pioneers 12-0, 6-1

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson softball (3-5, 2-2 NJAC) suffered a pair of setbacks, 12-0 and 6-1, to visiting Rowan (10-4, 4-0 NJAC) April 6.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan used a double and two-out RBI single to take a 1-0 lead during its first at-bat.
  • The Profs doubled their advantage in the second via sacrifice fly to right field, and added two more runs in the third to push the advantage to 4-0.
  • Rowan crossed home three more times in the fourth and five more in the fifth to conclude the scoring.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior left fielder Ryan Tighe (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) went 2-for-2 at the plate
  • Starter Caitlyn Massaro (Madison, N.J./Madison) dropped her record to 1-2 after allowing seven runs on 11 hits while striking out one in 3.2 innings of work.
 
GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rowan gained an early 1-0 lead in first, but WP tied things up in the home half of the inning as senior third baseman Sydney Pace (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) singled home classmate Vanessa Archibold (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook).
  • Two singles, a double, a fielding error and a sac fly plated two Profs in the third as the visitors pushed ahead 3-1.
  • A lead-off home run, a fielding error and an RBI-groundout in the fourth made it 6-1 in favor of Rowan.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior second baseman Jillian Bigos (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) and Massaro each tallied two hits.
  • Freshman Samantha Martin (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) (1-3) look the loss after surrendering nine hits and six runs (three earned) with a walk and a strikeout in 3.1 innings.

  • WP visits Ramapo for a doubleheader Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m.
