GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following a single and stolen base by senior centerfielder Vanessa Archibold (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook), senior third baseman Sydney Pace (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) delivered a run-scoring single to give WP a 1-0 in the home half of the first.
  • A two-RBI double by Archibold, and a Gothic Knight fielding error helped the Pioneers increase their advantage to 4-0 after two innings.
  • In the home half of the fifth, a two-RBI double by senior shortstop Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton), a run-scoring double by junior first baseman Caitlin Monahan (Bloomingdale, N.J./Butler) and an RBI-single by junior left fielder Lauren Naveo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) concluded the scoring.

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers crossed home four times during their first at-bat, beginning with an RBI-triple from junior second baseman Jillian Bigos (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South). Monahan followed with a run-scoring double to right center, followed by a bases-loaded walk from junior first baseman Jonnalyn McClain (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp. ) and an RBI-single from senior right fielder Ryan Tighe (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills).
  • NJCU took advantage of four singles in the top of the second to cut the deficit to 4-1, but WP answered with four more runs the bottom of the same frame. Pace doubled home Bigos, junior catcher Anna Nunziato (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) hit a sac fly, Monahan stole home and McClain smacked a run-scoring single to the right side to make it 8-1.
  • The Gothic Knights used two hits and a Pioneer throwing error to manufacture two runs in the third.
  • In the fifth, McClain continued her impressive day with a two-RBI single to centerfield. An NJCU fielding error allowed two more run to cross as WP claimed the 12-3 triumph.
