Women’s Soccer Could Not Hold on to First Half Lead as They Were Bested at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (0-1-1, 0-1-1 NJAC) had a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half, but ultimately gave up four goals in the second half as they were bested 4-1 on the road at Montclair State (3-0-1, 3-0-1 NJAC) on March 25.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Isabel Fernandez (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) put the first goal on the scoreboard at the 33:43 mark as she capitalized on a pass from classmate Daniella LoBue (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), placing the ball into the low left corner for the only point of the first half.
  • The Red Hawks were able to answer the Pioneers goal shortly after the second half kickoff, scoring the game-tying goal at the 46:39 mark.
  • Montclair State took the lead at the 68:52 mark as a high left shot was able to find the back of the net, giving them a 2-1 lead.
  • The Red Hawks would extend their lead late in the second half with two goals at the 84:31 and 87:53 marks to close out the contest 4-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior goalkeeper Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) compiled five saves for WP.
  • Fernandez's goal today was the first of her career at William Paterson.
