New Jersey City Pulls Away Late to Top Women’s Basketball, 62-46

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson women's basketball (2-4, 2-4 NJAC) led a fourth-quarter lead against New Jersey Athletic Conference-leading New Jersey City (6-0, 6-0 NJAC) but was unable to hang on, falling 62-46 at home Feb. 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In a first quarter that had five ties and four lead changes, neither team was able establish any momentum as the period finished 12-12.
  • Tied midway through the second, New Jersey City knocked down back-to-back threes to help build a four-point edge (24-20, 5:09). William Paterson responded with a pair of Allison McBride (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) layups, but the Pioneers missed their final three shots in the half and trailed 30-26 at the break.
  • Trailing 36-32 in the third, the Pioneers took control on both end of the floor, holding the Gothic Knights to 0-of-8 shooting and closing the period on a 10-2 run to take a 42-38 advantage into the final stanza.
  • Jersey City responded by scoring the first 10 points in the fourth quarter and never looked back, cruising to the 62-46 decision.
