Women’s Soccer Advances to ECAC Semifinals in 3-0 Shut Out Against Mount St. Mary’s

 
ALFRED, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's soccer (9-8) earned the right to advance to the semifinal matchup in the ECAC tournament as the third-seeded Pioneers shut out the second-seeded Mount St. Mary's Knights (11-8-2), 3-0 on Nov. 13.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior back Megan Ponce (Clifton, N.J./Paramus Catholic) scored the first goal of the contest at the 15:57 mark to give WP the 1-0 lead.
  • William Paterson would extend its lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute with a goal from senior back Kayla Miller (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne).
  • The Pioneers put the game out of reach at the 74:03 mark as sophomore forward Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) put a shot in the back of the net for the 3-0 lead.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate goalkeeper Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) earned her fifth shut out of the season for WP.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson advances to semifinal match Sunday, Nov. 14 at 12:00 p.m. to face the either first-seeded Alfred or fourth-seeded Westminster.
