Men's Basketball Registers 100-86 Victory in Season Opener

WAYNE, N.J.- The William Paterson men's basketball team (1-0) took down visiting The City College of New York (1-1), 100-86, in its 2021-2022 season opener, Nov. 10. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • CCNY jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
  • A 16-0 Pioneer run in the final minutes of the first half gave WP a 42-40 edge.
  • The first half ended in a 42-42 tie.
  • A 10-point swing by WP gave it a 78-68 lead with just nine minutes to play. 
  • Four straight three-pointers from graduate student guard Brian Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) solidified the win for the Pioneers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student guard Domenic Mignone (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) recorded an impressive 26 points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals, while shooting 12-for-21 (.571) from the field.
  • Monaghan finished with 24 points on 9-for-10 (.900) shooting overall and 6-for-7 (.857) from behind the arc in his first game as a Pioneer.
  • Senior guard Nick Rodriguez (Redding, Calif./Shasta) finished with 16 points and three assists. 
  • The Pioneers eclipsed 100 points in regulation time for the first time since the 2015-16 season opener.
