Sixth-Seeded Volleyball Opens NJAC Tournament Play Tuesday at Third-Seeded Stockton

PITMAN, N.J. -- Sixth-seeded William Paterson (13-11, 3-5 NJAC) will play at third-seeded Stockton (15-16, 6-2 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 7:00 p.m. for the right to advance to the semifinal round. 
 
HOW TO FOLLOW THE MATCH
  • Live statistics and live video coverage will be available
  • Stockton Spectator Policy – Spectators are permitted to attend Stockton Athletics events. Masks are required for everyone when indoors. 
  • Ticket prices for all tournament matches are $5.00 for adults; $2.00 for children, students, and senior citizens.
 
WHERE  
WHAT'S AT STAKE
  • The WP/Stockton winner will advance to the semifinals at second-seeded Montclair State (19-10, 7-1 NJAC) Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7:00 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the championship match Saturday, Nov. 6, at a time to be determined. The NJAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
 
WP IN THE NJAC TOURNAMENT
  • The Pioneers are seeking their fourth conference title (1982, 1983, 1991).

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • William Paterson is 13-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play this season.
  • A two-time NJAC Player of the Week (Oct. 4, Oct. 25), junior middle hitter Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota ) is contributing 3.33 digs and a league-leading 4.38 kills per set.
  • Senior outside hitter Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick), the Sept. 7 and Sept. 13 NJAC Player of the Week, is second in the conference with 4.66 kills and 4.98 digs per set.
  • Senior setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) is posting 9.27 assists (fourth in NJAC) and 2.74 digs per set.
  • Junior middle hitter Kathleen Burrough (North Burlington, N.J./North Burlington) is adding 2.16 kills, 0.50 service ace and 3.03 digs per set.

SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
  • Stockton registered a 15-16 overall record and 6-2 mark in conference play during the regular season.
  • Senior right-side hitter Charlotte Leon leads the Ospreys with 3.22 kills per set (fifth in league).
  • Sophomore outside/right-side hitter Emma Capriglione is contributing 2.62 kills per set.
  • Sophomore setter Aubrey Rentzel is averaging 7.43 assists and 2.42 digs per set.
  • Senior defensive specialist Sophia Marziello leads Stockton with 3.78 digs per set.
 
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • The William Paterson volleyball team (8-7, 2-3 NJAC) fell 3-1 on the road at Stockton (8-11, 4-1 NJAC) Oct. 5.
  • Stockton secured set wins of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-21. The Pioneers won the second set in the match, 25-23. 
  • Junior middle hitter Leila Ksiyer (Bogota, N.J./Bogota ) led the Pioneers with 17 kills. Senior setter Kristin Volavka (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) dished out 34 assists. Senior outside hitter Dakota Apicella (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) registered five service aces.
