Field Hockey Rolls to 7-0 Victory at Centenary

Eight Different Pioneers Register a Point against the Cyclones

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Eight different Pioneers registered a point as the William Paterson field hockey team (7-4) rolled to a 7-0 victory at Centenary (2-7) Oct. 8.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Graduate student midfielder Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional) converted a penalty stroke in the fifth minute, and senior back Alicia Mitchell (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) made it a 2-0 score with a finish off a scramble at the 13:31 mark. Senior forward Abigail Viola (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) was credited with the assist.
  • Sophomore forward Adrian Dieckman (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) knocked in a pass from senior midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) for a 3-0 edge in the 18th minute, then she converted a rebound less than two minutes later for her second goal of the day.
  • Hoopes scored off a scramble in front of the cage at the 27:15 mark, making it a 5-0 margin.
  • Sophomore midfielder Louise Nastasi (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) redirected a rebound in the 35th minute for her second goal of the season.
  • Freshman forward Kayla Mlynarski (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) found the back of the cage for the first time as a Pioneer, finishing junior back Gina Piscitelli's (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) pass off a corner at the 57:29 mark.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Emily Hoagland (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) did not need to make a save in order to post her first shutout of the season.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson goes to Hoboken to play Stevens Monday, Oct. 11, at 6:00 p.m.
