Field Hockey Suffers 2-1 Overtime Defeat at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. –Senior back Alicia Mitchell (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) notched the game-tying goal with under three minutes left in the contest to force an overtime period, but the William Paterson field hockey team (7-5) fell 2-1 on the road at Stevens (10-2) Oct. 11.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a scoreless first half, the Ducks put the first point on the board at the 43:55 mark, connecting on a shot from the corner of the circle to take the 1-0 lead.
  • Mitchell's equalizer came at the 57:49 mark as she was able to collect her own rebound and put a shot in the back of the cage for the 1-1 tie.
  • Stevens' game-winning goal came just 1:16 into the overtime period as they capitalized on a breakaway opportunity for the 2-1 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore goalie Emily Hoagland (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) collected seven saves for WP.

UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers resume conference play at Wightman Stadium Friday, October 15, at 5:30 pm., against Stockton.
