Men's Soccer Falls 3-2 to Rutgers-Camden in Intense NJAC Matchup

WAYNE, N.J.- The William Paterson men's soccer team (3-7-1, 0-4 NJAC) lost 3-2 to Rutgers-Camden (5-4-1, 1-3 NJAC) in a back-and-forth match that featured four second-half goals. Oct. 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rutgers-Camden found the back of the net early on in the match, scoring in the fifth minute.
  • After Rutgers-Camden took a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute off a WP own goal, Freshman forward Diego Navas Trujillo answered with two back-to-back goals in the 66th and 77th minutes, tying the match at 2-2.
  • Rutgers-Camden regained the lead in the 78th minute.
  • Senior foward Jacob Von Giebel (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) was granted a penalty kick in the 90th minute off a Rutgers-Camden handball in the box, but was unable to convert. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Navas Trujillo netted his third and fourth goals of his Pioneer career.
  • Von Giebel registered an assist and four shots on goal.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sean Furtek (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) recorded three saves.
