Hoopes’ Double Overtime Winner Secures 2-1 Win for Field Hockey Versus Stockton

Pioneers Earn First Conference Win of the Season

WAYNE, N.J. –Senior midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) notched the double overtime game-winner for the William Paterson field hockey team (8-5, 1-2 NJAC) as it secured the 2-1 victory against Stockton (7-5, 0-3 NJAC) Oct. 15.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers' put in the first goal at the 3:51 mark as Senior back Alicia Mitchell (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) assisted senior back Kelsie Murphy (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) in front the cage for the early 1-0 lead.
  • The Ospreys' hit the equalizer at the 52nd minute, knocking in a shot off a penalty corner opportunity for the 1-1 tie.
  • Hoopes' secured the game-winning goal for WP came at the 71:41 mark on a breakaway shot taken from the top right of the circle for the 2-1 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore goalie Emily Hoagland (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) earned four saves for William Paterson.

UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers travel to Ramapo Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 3:15 p.m. to take on the Roadrunners.
