Fiorito Strikes Again, Women’s Soccer Notches 1-0 Conference Victory

Pioneers Defeat Rutgers-Newark

WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore forward Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored in her fourth straight match, lifting the William Paterson women's soccer team (5-6, 2-4 NJAC) to 1-0 conference victory against visiting Rutgers-Newark (7-4-2, 1-4-1 NJAC) Oct. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior midfielder Isabel Fernandez (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) tracked down a pass along the left end line and sent a cross across the box. Fiorito got on the end of it and knocked it home in the 75th minute for the night's lone goal.
  • The Scarlet Raiders nearly scored the equalizer with less than six minutes to play, but their shot rang off the right post.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) collected a season-best eight saves for her second shutout of the year. She now sits alone in fifth place on the WP career list with 11 clean sheets.
  • All four of Fiorito's goals this fall have come during the last four matches, and two have been game winners.
