WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (5-7, 2-5 NJAC) found the back of the net first, but couldn't overcome Montclair State (9-4, 5-2 NJAC), 6-2, as the Pioneers celebrated Senior Day Oct. 16.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Senior midfielder Isabel Fernandez (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) chipped in a pass from classmate Danielle LoBue, handing the Pioneers a 1-0 edge in the 15th minute.
• Montclair State headed in three goals during a four-minute span, making it a 3-1 match by the 25:42 mark.
• The Red Hawks scored again seven seconds into the second half for a 4-1 lead.
• Sophomore forward Julia Fiorito (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) converted a Fernandez pass at the 54:13 mark, cutting the advantage to 4-2.
• MSU added goals during the 61st and 69th minutes to finish the scoring.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Graduate student Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had eight saves and junior Brooke Sachau (Franklin Twp., N.J./Franklin) had one stop.
• Prior to the match, WP honored its nine seniors – Fernandez, Hickey, Shari Kafetzis (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.), LoBue, Taylor Mastropasqua (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown), Kayla Miller (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne), Samantha Persaud (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick), Megan Ponce (Clifton, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and Michelle Wilson (Lodi, N.J./Lodi).
