2020-21 Winter Student-Athlete FAQs
Dear Pioneers,
I wanted to share with you updates regarding our plans for William Paterson University's winter sports competition during the 2020-21 academic year.
After considering the health and safety impacts on all those who would be involved, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to suspend fall semester competition for our Pioneer men's and women's swimming and diving and men's and women's basketball programs. If COVID-19 related conditions allow, we plan to begin winter sport competition after Jan. 1, 2021.
In addition, the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Board of Athletic Administrators has unanimously agreed to reduce the conference basketball schedule from 18 games to nine games, and conference play is slated to begin Jan. 20, 2021.
These winter sport decisions, in addition to the previous announcement regarding the postponement of fall sports competition, were made in consultation with institutional, local, conference and NCAA authorities. We continue to closely monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidance as we formulate our plans for future William Paterson intercollegiate athletics practices and competitions.
We share your disappointment that you will not be able to compete during the upcoming fall semester. These are challenging times in so many respects, but I remain confident that, together, we will successfully overcome this adversity.
Please continue to comply with all public health directives, follow the personal hygiene and physical distancing guidance, and wear a face covering. We must each do our part, not only to protect ourselves, but also those around us.
