Women’s Basketball Drops a 57-54 Decision at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. – William Paterson women's basketball (10-14, 8-9 NJAC) saw its potential game-tying three-pointer miss the mark at the buzzer as the Pioneers fell on the road to Ramapo (9-15, 4-13 NJAC), 57-54, Feb. 15.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tied at 12-12 late in the first quarter, the Pioneers went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-12 lead with 9:35 remaining in the second frame. Ramapo would rally and cut the deficit one (28-27, 1:42), but WP knocked down a pair of free throws late and held a 30-27 advantage at the break.
  • Both teams traded baskets for much of the third period until the Roadrunners used a 6-0 burst to move in front, 40-38, after 30 minutes. Trailing 57-51 late in the fourth, three straight WP points, coupled with two free throw misses by Ramapo, gave the Pioneers a final chance to send the into overtime, but senior guard Alisa Giordano's (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) three-pointer was off the mark and the Roadrunners escaped with the win, 57-54.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Giordano and junior forward Vianca Soriano (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) each scored 15 points, while junior guard Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) contributed eight tallies, eight rebounds and matched her season-high with four steals.
  • With today's result, WP is now in a fifth-place tie with New Jersey City in the conference standings with one game left.

UP NEXT:
  • WP celebrates Senior Day Wednesday, Feb. 19 when the Pioneers host The College of New Jersey at 6:00 p.m.
