WAYNE, N.J. – After erasing a 12-point halftime deficit and forcing overtime, the William Paterson women's basketball team (8-11, 6-6 NJAC) could not complete its comeback, falling at home to New Jersey City (8-11, 5-7 NJAC), 65-60, Jan. 29
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- WP struggled from the field throughout the entire first two quarters, hitting just 4-of-34 (.118) attempts as NJCU held a 31-19 edge at halftime.
- The Pioneers started their rally just after intermission, outscoring the Gothic Knights 18-9 in the third to make it a one-possession game heading into the final period (40-37).
- Trailing 51-47 with 4:13 remaining, a fast break layup from freshman guard Yakira Rosa (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) capped off a 7-0 burst that handed William Paterson its first lead of the game (54-51, 1:32), however New Jersey City scored with 11 seconds remaining to force the contest into overtime.
- In the extra frame, Rosa's mid-range jumper tied things up at 60-60 with under a minute to play, but NJCU scored five straight points to come away with the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Rosa scored a team-high 12 points, while senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) tallied 11.
- Freshman forward Allison McBride (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds to register her second double-double of the season.
