MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Despite a career-high 14 points from sophomore guard
Danica DeFrank (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex), William Paterson women's basketball (8-9, 6-4 NJAC) could not overcome a large first-half deficit, falling on the road to Montclair State (13-4, 8-2 NJAC), 60-51, Jan. 22.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Leading 17-13 after 10 minutes, the Pioneers struggled in the second quarter, shooting just 3-for-17 (.176) as Montclair State outscored WP 20-6 in the frame to open a 10-point halftime, 33-23.
- With WP trailing 47-36 at the start of the final period, an 11-3 scoring run, including six straight points from freshman forward Allison McBride (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional), made it a one-possession game (50-47) with 4:24 remaining. The Red Hawks would respond 6-0 burst and hold on for the nine-point win, 60-51.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- DeFrank finished 5-for-11 (.454) from the field and added four steals.
- Freshman guard Madison Dulude (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored in double figures for the 10th time this season, adding 13 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.
- Defensively, senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) led all players with five steals.
