Women's Swimming and Diving Registers Sixth Straight Victory

Senior Ashley Lawler and Sophomore Megan Hoopes Were Double Winners

Junior Iris Santos won the 50 free and helped the Pioneers finish first in the 200 medley relay.

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (11-1, 1-1 NJAC) tallied its sixth straight victory with a 114-92 defeat over visiting SUNY Cobleskill (5-5, 0-0 NEAC) Jan. 14.

TOP PERFORMERS:

Senior Ashley Lawler (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) placed first in both diving events. She earned 210.10 points in the one-meter dive and 224.17 points in the three-meter dive.
Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) posted another double-winning performance. The sophomore out-touched her competition in the 200 free (2:09.23) and the 500 free (5:48.61).
Junior Iris Santos (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) beat her competitors to the wall in the 50 free, out-touching the others by a full second (28.80).
Sophomore Taylor Friedman (South Amboy, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) placed first in the 100 back with a 1:13.16 finish.
WP was victorious in both relay events against the Fighting Tigers. Efforts from Friedman (34.41), senior Mariah Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) (35.40), freshman Jillian Starace (Toms River/Toms River East) (32.22) and Santos (30.67) gave the Pioneers top points in the 200 medley relay (2:12.70).
The 200 free relay win was recorded by Hoopes (28.39), senior Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) (31.02), freshman Makeda Moore (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield Academy for the Arts) (31.69) and junior Sarah Myers (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) (34.58). The quartet combined for a 2:05.59 finish.
