Mastropasqua’s Strike is Game Winner for Women’s Soccer at Centenary, 2-1

Junior Scores First Goal as Pioneer, Finds Net in 71st Minute

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior back Taylor Mastropasqua (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) picked an opportune time to score her first goal as a Pioneer, finding the back of the net during the 71st minute of play for a 2-1 William Paterson women's soccer (2-1) victory at Centenary (0-2) Sept. 4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • WP opened the scoring 53 seconds before halftime when sophomore midfielder Samantha Persaud (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) connected on a Corrine Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) pass for a 1-0 edge.
  • The Cyclones leveled the score at the 65:07 mark with an unassisted goal, but Mastropasqua gave the Pioneers the lead for good when the transfer from Mercer County Community College struck for an unassisted marker with 19:40 remaining.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had one save in goal for WP.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson starts its home slate Saturday, Sept. 7, at 5:00 p.m. against FDU-Florham.
