Field Hockey Upended in Home Opener Despite a Lead at Halftime

Brown Records Another Eight Saves

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (0-2) was upended by Stevens (2-1), 2-3, in a back and forth battle throughout the home opener at Wightman Stadium Sept. 4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Nicole Goitiandia (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) tallied her first goal of the season off of a short pass from classmate Michaela Meillier (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) shortly after the game began (6').
  • Although the Ducks did not answer back until after halftime, two goals within two minutes of each other in the third quarter gave Stevens a lead.
  • Sophomore Hope Addlesberger (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) deflected a shot from senior Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) in the 47th minute to get the Pioneers on the scoreboard yet again.
  • A deflection from a shot to the goalie's pads resulted in the final goal for Stevens in the 53rd minute.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior goalie Kerianne Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) recorded another eight saves, giving her 16 saves so far this season.
  • Super's assist was the 12th of her career.

UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 7, to face off against Moravian in non-conference play.  Action begins at 4:00 p.m.
