WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (4-2-2, 0-1-1 NJAC) had quality chances to score the game winner late, but came away with a 2-2 double-overtime tie against visiting Montclair State (5-2-2, 1-0-1 NJAC) Sept. 25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior midfielder Lorraine Moffitt's (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) corner kick from the right flag floated towards the left post and classmate Marisa Adelman's (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) sprinting header slammed the ball into the net, making it a 1-0 Pioneer advantage in the 28th minute.
- Senior forward Corrine Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made a slick move with the ball to free herself from a defender, then blasted a shot from outside the left side of the box to the inside of the right post, pushing the lead to 2-0 at the 34:38 mark.
- The Red Hawks got a goal back less than two minutes later as a cross from the left side was pushed across the goal line near the right post when the attacker and goalkeeper collided.
- An MSU header from the left side of the box knotted the score at 2-2 just 2:01 into the second half.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) finished with 10 stops in goal for the Pioneers, the fourth double-digit total of her career. Her point-blank save with 24 minutes to play in regulation kept it a 2-2 game.
- Adelman (eight, 19) and Moffitt (five) added to their team-leading totals in goals, points and assists, respectively. Bowe's strike was her third of the season.
- Adelman's header of a corner kick with 10 minutes remaining was saved by a defender at the left post, and the follow up of the rebound was sent just over the crossbar.
- Adelman threatened again with 2:30 on the clock during the first overtime, but her chip of Bowe's pass was high.
- The best chance came with 5:40 left in the second OT when Adelman sprinted to split two defenders and let a shot fly from the left side that slipped past the right post of the open net.
