Men’s Soccer Nearly Collects Second-Straight Tie Against Ranked Team, But Falls 2-1 in Second Overtime

Pioneers Surrender Late Goal to No. 6 Franklin and Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (3-3-2) nearly pulled out a second-straight draw against a nationally-ranked team, but No. 6 Franklin and Marshall (7-1) escaped with a 2-1 in double overtime Sept. 25.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Diplomats opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, but WP senior forward/midfielder Jordan Saling (Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) stepped up to the spot and converted a penalty kick, pulling WP even at 1-1 just 44 seconds into the second half.
  • F&M got the game winner midway through the second overtime period with a tap in on the right side of the frame.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) collected a season-best six saves.
  • Four of Saling's five goals this season have come via PK.
  • The Pioneers were coming off a 1-1 home draw against No. 17 Rowan Sept. 21.
