Men’s Soccer Uses Goal During Final Second of First Half to Draw No. 17 Rowan, 1-1

Pioneers Start Conference Play with Point on Agyemang’s Header

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (3-2-2, 0-0-1 NJAC) found the back of the net with one tick left on the first-half clock, then made that goal stand up for a 1-1 double-overtime draw with No. 17 Rowan (4-1-3, 0-0-1 NJAC) Sept. 21 during both teams' New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) men's soccer opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Profs struck first when freshman Ki Costa finished a ball played from midfield to the left flank, completing the 1v1 opportunity in the 30th minute.
  • The Pioneers leveled the score with exactly one second left in the first half as junior back Kevin Pratt (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) launched a free kick across the field to the right corner of the box. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Goggins (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) headed it back against the grain toward the center of the frame, and a sprinting Osei Agyemang (Parlin, N.J./Old Bridge) got the last touch with his head, scoring his first career goal and making it a 1-1 score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) made four stops for the Pioneers, the biggest coming during the waning seconds of the first overtime period when he sprinted off his line and snuffed out a late chance by Rowan's leading scorer, Jay Vandermark.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson travels to Franklin and Marshall Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
