Six Pioneers Find Back of the Net During 7-0 Men’s Soccer Win

Five Players Notch First Career Points in Triumph at York (N.Y.)

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Six different Pioneers found the back of the net as the William Paterson men's soccer team (3-2-1) cruised to a 7-0 victory at York, N.Y. (1-6) Sept. 18.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior forward Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) buried a penalty kick for a 1-0 edge less than 10 minutes into the contest, and freshman forward Yachine Wahnon (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) put home a rebound in the 38th minute for his first career goal and a 2-0 edge.
  • Freshman midfielder/back Roger Bermejo (Passaic, N.J./Passaic County Technical Institute) collected his first career tally with an unassisted strike at the 67:49 mark, and junior forward Chris Fuentes (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) converted a PK for a 4-0 advantage in the 79th minute.
  • Wahnon notched his second goal of the day, connecting on a flicked pass from freshman midfielder David Moreira (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) at the 83:24 mark.
  • Freshman midfielder Alfredo Gonzales (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) knocked in a Moreira pass for a 6-0 score 81 seconds later, his first career points. Junior back Kamal Eletrebi (Dayton, N.J./Mansoura Language School) found senior midfielder/back Joey Lettera (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) in the box for the match's final goal with 12 seconds remaining. For Lettera, the goal marked his first points as a Pioneer.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Hatch (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) collected five saves during the first 71:03, and sophomore Gabriel Reyes (Paterson, N.J./Ramstein) played the final 18:57 of the shutout.
 
UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson will begin its conference slate at home Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1:00 p.m. against No. 17 Rowan.
