Pioneers Defeat Visiting St. Joseph’s-Long Island

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The Pioneers scored five times during the match's first 35 minutes, leading to a 7-0 William Paterson women's soccer (4-1-1) victory against visiting St. Joseph's-Long Island (3-3-1) Sept. 18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Moffitt fed a ball along the left side to senior forward Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville), whose cross to the center of the box was finished by senior midfielder Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) for a quick 1-0 edge less than five minutes into the contest.
  • Freshman Brooke Sachau (Franklin, N.J./Franklin) cleared a ball up the right flank that sophomore midfielder Samantha Persaud (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) sprinted on to and beat the keeper for her second goal of the season and a 2-0 score in the 12th minute. Sachau was credited with the rare goalkeeper assist.
  • Junior midfielder Danielle Dachowski's (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) header of a Moffitt corner kick ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar, making it a 3-0 advantage at the 12:37 mark.
  • Moffitt's pass up the left seam was collected by Adelman, who out-sprinted the defense and finished to the lower-right corner of the frame for a 4-0 game in the 24th minute.
  • Persaud found Bowe with space outside the box, and a quick touch and dribble freed her for a shot to the lower right 10:32 before halftime.
  • Adelman was able to manufacture a hat trick thanks to a pair of late goals, the first at the 86:25 mark when she headed in Moffitt's corner kick. Dachwoski later played a long ball toward goal during the contest's final minute, and Adelman was able to get the shot off before colliding with the keeper.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • WP is now 3-0-1 during its last four outings.
  • Three Pioneer seniors combined for 15 points: Adelman had a hat trick and assist, Bowe notched a brace and Moffitt assisted on four goals.
